Out of Boredom, I Made This Personal Blog
Cloudflare's free services are truly top-notch. This website and some of my personal software & WebApp projects all use CF for network services.
Here's a quick rundown of the tech stack behind the site:
- Web framework: Astro with TypeScript.
- Interactivity: A few lightweight Preact components handle article editing, tag input, the AI chat dialog, and the media library. When you're just reading articles, none of those heavy client-side frameworks get loaded — so it stays snappy.
- Hosting & deployment: Cloudflare Workers for static assets + Astro's Cloudflare adapter.
- Database: Cloudflare D1 (basically managed SQLite).
- Image storage: Cloudflare R2 Standard.
- Admin auth: Since it's just me using it, I set up Cloudflare Access.
- Scheduled publishing: A single Worker cron trigger that scans for due content and publishes it automatically.
- Styling: Custom CSS variables plus component styles.
- Writing: Markdown.
- What's not here: External databases, third-party login services, external object storage, public comment SaaS, paid analytics SDKs — none of that.
